Dyeing to Dye

Today was a beautiful North Carolina day, cool breezes, cloudless sky and sunshine.  Too beautiful to be inside weaving or doing chores.  A perfect day to fire up the indigo pot.  I purchased a huge lot of rug yarn on Ravelry with the intent to play with some natural dyes.

I also had some tapestry yarns in white, gray, yellow and a funky green.
The first two skeins are wrapped with plastic for an experiment in space dyeing.

I am pleased with the variety of greens and blues I achieved.

Not a total success, there was some bleeding under the plastic.

Ready to sample.  The intervals of wrapping were varied, more blue on the right.

I am currently working on a design for my second wedge weave.  Deciding on the dimension is giving me pause right now.  I am more comfortable with the small format but want to go big.

Ike's First Job

Our first assignment. We were both so excited, Ike and I! Our first event was a Valentine's Day event at a local college. We had no idea what to expect. I know Ike is a laidback dog and I hoped he'd enjoy the experience. We braved the 16 degrees below zero temperatures and walked the scenic pathways along the quad to the student union building. There we encountered a long line of students--this was going to be a well-attended event. Coordinators led us into the room where crafts and refreshments were set up for the students. One other dog, a yellow lab, was there. Later, another dog joined. There were supposed to be 9 dogs at the event, but the rest didn't show up due to the cold. These three would have their paws full! Fido and Fireworks-- Tips to help your dog keep calm

Explosions, powerful booms, sudden crashes---it's enough to send your dog running for cover. But fireworks do more damage than just cause dogs to cower. They can create severe anxiety, even panic.  Keep calm, like Ike!  If left alone during a fireworks episode, some dogs will scratch or bite at crates, doors and walls enough to harm themselves, or if possible, escape and run off to some place they perceive safer. Here are some ways you can help calm your dog this 4th of July: 1. Provide Hiding Places- - Make sure bedroom or closet doors are open, or that your dog has access to some place he feels safe. For some dogs that might be glued to your side, while others prefer to seek out a dark corner. But don't shut your dog in any place he feels trapped, or can't escape if he wants. 2.
